San Antonio Aguas Caliente Woman's Huipil --- Finely woven huipil of cotton base material in 2 back-strap loomed panels. The huipil has finely brocaded flowers, birds fish and fine that appear equally fine on front and back side of the panel. This two-sided brocade is one of the reasons, San Antonio Aguas Caliente weaving is considered among the finest in Guatemala. The shoulder pattern includes birds and flowers. You can see a slight bit darker color where pleats have been let out. The neckline has been modified with a jeweled type trim.
Condition: Moderately good used condition. The huipil shows moderate fading and wear and a few loose threads.While there is fading of the lavender base material, it does not detract from the beauty the brocade. Sides seams open (could be easily stitched closed to wear as a huipil blouse). Panels combination of selvage finished and hemmed. The neck opening has been modified and there is some wear at the older V-style neck opening.
