The San Rafael Doll outfit is a new one that we are adding to our collection this year!
In 2016 I took a Mayan Hands Tour (highly recommended) and we traveled to their San Rafael weaving group. In the past the huipil from San Rafael was primarily white with colored brocade designs. Now you will see women with handwoven huipils in a variety of colors. They showed us how they wove their huipils on a backstrap loom when we visited their village and explained how they worked together as a cooperatively to make Mayan Hands products.
I had the 18" American GIrl Doll, Josefina, along on the visit and the women loved her. When I asked if anyone would be interested in making doll huipils, they were. A couple weavers made some samples and we worked out design and cost. You can see the beautiful doll huipils they had from San Rafael the following year. I hope you and your doll will like them so I can order more next year.
Each outfit includes:
- Handwoven doll "huipil"
- "Corte" (skirt)
- Colorful sash "faja" (belt)
Other accessory items such as baskets, hammocks, necklaces, hats, slippers, shawls and other fun stuff are available for sale as accessories.
The Artisans: Two women from Mayan Hand's San Rafael women's group wove Terra Experience's San Rafael doll huipils.
