Santa Catarina Palopo Woman's Huipil ---Double headed eagle, quetzals, horses, corn, turkeys, deer, butterflies, tree of life and more on this finely brocaded huipil that was made on a back-strap loom. The huipil has 3 panels and the base color is a medium blue that contrasts well with the various blues and colors of the brocade. Neck and arm holes are finished with velvet ribbon.
Bought from Lucia 2012, made by her 40 year old daughter Manuela.
Condition: Very good used condition. The huipil shows light wear and a few loose threads. Sides seams open (could be easily sewn closed). Half of the panels are fringed others are selvage finished. . As with many Santa Catarina Palopo huipils, there is some uneveness to the length of the panels. It could be hemmed to a even length, if desired.
