Santiago Atitlan Woman's Huipil Santiago Atitlan - Light blue-lavender base with darker purple vertical stripes woven into fabric. The horizontal stripe design is probably hard to see unless you enlarge the pictures (click on them) -- with a multicolored jewel like feeling of small flower and X's in the weave. There is "brillante" thread in many of these colors which adds to the effect. The base was woven on a backstrap loom with two panels loosely selvage finished and the other two hemmed. The embroidery of birds and flowers is attractive, but done by machine rather than hand embroidered. The neck is not quite large enough to fit over my 22" head comfortably (can do it but snug). The neck head-hole is nicely finished.
Condition: Very good used condition. A few loose threads along ends of panels. Side panels are sewn close, but could be fairly easily opened to wear as a poncho style.
2013: Purchased from Dolores. Was her friend's Ana Men's huipil.
